Dear Henry,
Oh Henry! You are growing up way too fast. Yesterday was your 4-month check up, and oh baby, you have grown!.
19 pounds 3.5 ounces
28.5 inches long
44.5 cm head circumference
And oh so cute!
I can't believe that you have gained 10 pounds and 10 ounces since you were born, just a tiny almost four months ago! and 7 and a half inches? Slow down, baby, slow down! This mama isn't ready for you to be big yet! Oh we love you so.
In other news, you're healthy as a horse, and happy as a clam. Doc Patton says that your neck and trunk support is what she typically sees in a 5.5 - 6 month old. Wow! You're so strong baby! You're also ahead in gross and fine motor development, communication, and all the other areas on the questionnaire. I don't remember what they all were. You're doing so well, sweet boy.
On a less happy note, Doc says it's time for you to put yourself to sleep. It's been a rough 24 hours. You don't like to be put in your crib awake. At all. And this mama doesn't like it either. You just get so so soooo sad, and scream and scream and scream. We're trying so hard to stick with it, because we know that it's what we need to do, and will help you so much in the end, but right now it's so hard to hear your tiny self crying and not go in and hold you. You woke up three times last night, and the first two we let you gry it out. We knew you weren't hungry, and probably just wanted your binky and a little snuggle, but instead we laid in bed - wide awake - dying basically. It was so sad. Both times after about half an hour you went back to sleep, and then we got some sleep, too. I think we're all a little tired today. We're trying to do exactly what the Doctor prescribed, and I'm hoping it gets easier soon.
She also says we need to just let you cry during tummy time, and not pick you up as soon as you start to fuss (which is after only about 3 minutes). You need that tummy time, you need to roll and crawl! We've just had far too many tears for my liking. I sure hope you adjust quickly.
But, we have good news too! We started rice cereal! Mama was SO excited. And you loved it! We need to work on the cereal actually staying in your mouth and going down your throat, instead of just running out. You'll master that skill eventually, babe. It was a tad aggravating to you - you'd get so mad if it wasn't going into your tummy! Dad and I are looking forward to introducing you to fruits and veggies here in about a month. I think you'll love them.
Lately, you love to sit (with help) and stand (also with help). Your favorite place to be, aside from mama and dad's arms, is in your Exer Saucer. You love that thing (thanks Grandma and Grandpa)! You love to stand in there and wiggle and bounce. It's so cute to watch. Mama put it next to the window in the living room so that you can look at all your tree friends outside, and you love being able to see and talk to them so much!
Your new best friends are your thumbs, and you love to talk to anything with a face - especially yourself! You love the mirror and think you're just so cute. Well, you are!
We're enjoying this last bit of Fall weather, and are dreading the cold winter. I hope you don't mind the cold too much, because I'm planning n bundling you up and being out lots this year. Our apartment is just too small and dark to stay inside all winter!
Henry babe, we love you to the moon and back.
XOXO
Mama
